Being Honest About Going Natural

Johnson & Johnson: Bad for Baby?
After learning about the tainted Johnson & Johnson products that I had, I decided to start really going towards more natural items. Oh you don't know about their tainted items? Well, as it turns out Johnson & Johnson's products, baby products too, all have a particular ingredient that is a known carcinogen. Not to mention that they have pthalates and parabens in their products as well as many more harsh chemicals. More here, here, here

Can We Really Protect Ourselves?
After learning about the Johnson & Johnson issue, I started thinking that really I should think about not just her items, but our items too. Granted I know that toxins and carcinogens are all around us, as unfortunately that is pretty much prominent in our world now.  I already use the Neutrogena naturals line for myself (a Johnson & Johnson product...hmmm), organic hair products and even mineral/organic makeup. But really, what toxins are in our household cleaners, even the "Green Works" by Clorox that I buy? Do I wash my dishes in products tainted with toxins and do I wipe our sinks down with items that produce carcinogens? Now I know that many products labeled "natural" aren't always natural but I've recently learned it's all about the ingredients. I've recently purchased many BabyGanics items that are plant based as well, but after some research I'm not sure I'm satisfied with them.

The Honest Company
Awhile back I received a free sample of body wash from The Honest Company and I was very intrigued by all of the labeling (love it too!). After doing my research and searching for any "bad substance" I've concluded that The Honest Company is really just what their name says, Honest. They are organic and plant based products and they are honestly free of any substance that produces carcinogens and they proudly list it on their site. They are free of harsh chemicals, toxins, parabens, pthalates, dyes and so much more. The Honest Company has skin care items, baby items, supplements and household cleaning products. I'm currently awaiting my first monthly bundle to come in and I'm very anxious to make the switch to all plant based cleaners.

Isn't Organic More Expensive?
You'd think it is! Actually it is pretty much equivalent to buying regular products if not cheaper. With The Honest Company I am now going to receive a bundle of five products a month for $35. I choose what five products I want, and if I want I can even add three more and receive those for 25% off. Now when you consider that five products such as laundry detergent, soap, toilet cleaner, lotion and surface cleaner is only $35 you quickly realize that it's not expensive at all. I'm currently waiting on my first bundle to arrive!

Why Go This Route?
In an environment that is already full of harsh chemicals, toxins and carcinogens (like our cell phones maybe?) why add to it with the items we use at home when we can control those things. We can't control the air we breathe outside (well we could if we all tried) but we can control what we breathe at home. It's safer for us, our little ones and our environment.

Next up, possibly homemade cleaners? Luckily The Honest Company is sending me that information as well. If you're interested view their products here. If it entices you even more, the company was co-founded by actress Jessica Alba when she realized that there was a need for safer baby products and household cleaners to keep them and their home safe and chemical free.
