Our Favorite Breakfast Meals for the Family

Kids Breakfast Ideas

I know what you’re thinking…you likely don’t need any breakfast inspiration. You’re all good in the hood and you have your favorite staples that your family uses on the daily. I get it!

Here’s the thing though, a few years ago I needed more breakfast ideas. I’m pretty sure my one year old and I ate Strawberry oatmeal for like a year straight. And hey, I’m not knocking you if you eat the same thing daily or give your kids cereal on the daily- you have to do what works for you! Thankfully though, I’ve learned some new things (super basic and simple) things that my kids actually enjoy and seem a bit more nourishing than if it was from the freezer or a box.

While my children aren’t chowing down on fancy omelets (none of them care for eggs) or eating fancy açaí bowls, we do have a basic rundown of meals that we rotate. Most of what we cook for breakfast is baked from scratch (crazy I know). However I am not ashamed of a good can that pops open some flaky biscuits or creamy cinnamon rolls.

I’m very fortunate that my schedule allows me to make warm breakfasts for our children, even if it is just a simple piece of toast. We don’t do much cereal because I am not really a cereal person and didn’t grow up on it either. While we try to avoid as many prepackaged and processed items, we are not perfect and still have convenience items on hand. I am all for having convenience on hand for those hectic mornings where you overslept, don’t feel like playing Susie homemaker or just woke up on the wrong side of the bed! #momlife

Our Favorite Breakfast Meals for the the Family

1). My French Toast. This is a staple in our home and as my oldest calls it a “weekend family tradition.” And she is right! We have my french toast every weekend and sometimes once per week for the school morning. Now when you see this toast, you will notice there’s nothing healthy about it! We use fresh brioche bread, organic powdered sugar and cinnamon and some chocolate chips. The good news is that it’s not full of preservatives or artificial anything, the bad news is that it’s sugary! I’ll usually add a side of bacon for a little protein.

2). Cinnamon Toast. Apparently this is a thing my husband grew up on and sadly, I knew nothing about it. He recently introduced this concoction to my children and now it’s something they get excited over! This is such a basic and easy meal. Simply grab a mason jar and mix granulated sugar and cinnamon together to make your own topping to sprinkle on. Toast your bread, coat with butter and then sprinkle the mix onto your buttery toast! Your kiddos will adore it. We add a side of fresh fruit and/or bacon.

3). Bacon and Biscuits. Here’s where I am not baking from scratch. While I can bake the Magnolia Table biscuits from scratch (and I LOVE them), it’s a lengthy process. This where I am thankful to have a can to pop open. We typically have Annie’s organic biscuits or Trader Joe’s biscuits, both of which are full of better ingredients and nothing added or artificial. However Pilsbury can work too! Here’s where I wish my kiddos ate eggs!

4). Pancakes. We have always enjoyed pancakes for quite some time around here. It’s one of my daughter’s favorite meals and I found myself constantly buying a box of organic pancake mix (usually Annie’s) at the store and was tired of always buying it. We now max our pancakes from scratch and it’s SO easy. I actually use the Pampered Chef measuring tool that makes it all easy for me. Literally just flour, eggs, water, salt and baking soda and I have yummy pancakes for our fam.

5). Toast and Fruit. Never would I have imagined that our toaster would see so much action. It felt like it was hardly used for the longest. When I am in a hurry or don’t feel like doing much, the kids receive toast, bacon and fruit for breakfast.

6). Banana Muffins. These are my children’s FAVORITE and we make them weekly! They are so excited when they see me make these. And next time we make them I intend to substitute the chocolate chips for strawberry pieces. Our children LOVE these and so do I. Make them with blueberries, walnuts, chocolate, strawberries or whatever your heart desires! What I love about these is that I can make a big batch while I am cooking dinner and then we have breakfast for the next two days.

7). Banana Bread. It’s actually been a REALLY long time since we’ve had this for breakfast (or snack). Looks like it is time to make it again soon!

8). Yogurt and Toast. This has been another convenience breakfast for us. An easy, warm piece of toast with a side of yogurt!

9). Our pull from the fridge meals — cinnamon rolls or Earth’s best organic frozen waffles. This is for the days I am tired or where we are out of fresh ingredients and I need to head to the grocery store. Pretty soon I will be attempting homemade cinnamon rolls - stay tuned!
